Octalysis workshop

I was involved in planning and conducting a UX workshop for University students on the topic of gamification, and its importance in user driven design. Whilst researching we discovered Nir Eyal’s Hook Canvas and Yu-kai Chou’s Octalysis framework and decided to use this as the base for the lesson.

At the start as the workshop we presented the topic then divided the students into groups to fill out blank Hook Canvas and Octalysis worksheets for a popular app. We then asked them to present their work to the class to apply and solidify their understanding.

The workshop was a success with the majority of students feeding back that they had learned something new, had enjoyed the session, and felt that this was something they could apply to projects in the future.
